Interpretation of Lady Gaga's Song Hair

Summary

Basically, this song is about finding who you really are and sticking to it. You can change your style, personality,image, appearance, spiritual and emotional until you find who you really are .And when you're sure of yourself, hold on to that and never let go. Fight to the death to keep yourself true to you. Never let other people's judgments get to you, because you are the only one who must decide for yourself.

"Whenever I'm dressed cool,
My parents put up a fight.

Mom will cut my hair at night.

I'm short of my identity.
I scream Mom and Dad,

In this verse: Parents- the people who made her and the ones she loves and respects the most, but in someway are hindering her from being herself.----this may also be a metaphor for her fans, her fans are the ones who made her that's why she loves em back, but sometimes they just can't appreciate her personality and they're pulling her back.

(Line 1,2) Whenever she feels that she's wearing a nice dress, people keep arguing if it is over the top, just a typical lady gaga outfit, or a cool dress[dress/outfits----a metaphor to personality]

(Line 3,4) And when she feels so tall and confident, some hater try to bring her down.

(Line 5,6) And whenever she wakes up, she questions herself. "Is this who I really am?"

(Line 7,8) And she slaps into everyone's faces who she really is whenever she goes out into public/perform.

This verse tells how she feels. She feels that people think she's pretending and that she's over the top, but that's who she really is. She is her hair(constantly changing and very creative)

(Line 1,2) She's tired of all their judging, and discouragements, all that she wishes is for her to be able to hold on to who she is right now and stay that way for the rest of her life. She would never alter herself anymore just for the sake of pleasing everyone.

(Line 3,4)Don't call her a freak just because she's different. She's just being herself [like a hip hop dancer in the streets ]

(Line 8,9) She can change her hair in any way she wants, any time. And just like her image, she can be reborn again and again(spiritually,and emotionally).

(Line 1) She walks with high confidence.

(Line 2,3,4) She does unpredictable and unusual things to make herself stand out and look cool.

(Line 5,6,7) And when prom came, she made herself look so "cool and hot" that she just couldn't win Prom queen. "Cool and hot" for her may look outrageous and inappropriate for others.

These lines has a tone of angst, and she's trying to justify her looks. It's like when people don't appreciate how you look, how you talk, how you sing, dance and other things you do or things about who you are, but you felt and you knew that they're all wrong.

(Line 2) She's showing a strand of her past that when she was younger, she had few friends and she never gets invited to parties because people thinks she's a freak or something.

(Line 3,4) People may think that her personality, looks and style are not normal or other bad things, but she would never change herself to please others. She is who she is and that's all she has and she needs.
