Interpretation of Katy Perry's song "ET"

Summary

Reading between the lines

This song is about a girl who met this foreign guy online, and then fell in love with him. She experienced things with him that she has never even thought would happen to her and made her want to leave everything she has in her country, just to be with him.

Reading beyond the lines

This song is about loving someone who people think is out of your league. But you love that someone so much that you are willing to lose everything that you have and don't mind everything that people say about that person because you know that you love that person. And you're sure that that person loves you too. And you feel like everything is magical,mystical and very out of this world. That is how you feel when you're really in love, when the words and adjectives in the world cannot describe how it feels like.

Being in LOVE with someone is light years away from being in a relationship with someone.

Verse 1: She's not yet sure of the man's personality. She doesn't know whether to consider him a good or a bad person.

Verse II: But whenever they get into a physical connection, she just can't handle it. She is really drawn to the person and it feels like they're floating when they're together.

Verse II: Her friends tell her to not trust the guy, and are maybe telling her that he's a bad person, and that he's not like the others. He is ,probably, a guy she met online or a guy who believes in modern ways of dealing with relationships, hence, futuristic lover.

Verse IV: She's siding with him. She thinks that people just don't understand him. She feels that the uniqueness in him is really what draws her to liking him.

Verse IV: He lives like in a far far country, and he has different perspectives in things. And he has convinced her into thinking alike with how he does. And She's fallen for him that she's ready to leave everything that she has to live with him.

Verse V: She wants to carry his baby. She wants him to give her a baby, hence be infected with his loving and she's filled with his blood/race(poison=the thing in him that's different and that makes people thing he's a bad person)

Verse VI: She acknowledges the fact that he's of a different race, and that his features(touch) are very different.

Verse VII: He got her so fast(supersonic), that she was stunned/shocked/taken aback after one look(laser), and she instantly wanted to feel what he feels like. His kiss is something that she has never felt from anyone else she's kissed before.

Verse VIII: She feels like she's in a mystical state, a state that she's only read in books, heard in songs, and stories, and she never really knew it was real. She wants to be on the same level of how he thinks(wavelength). She wants to think how he thinks, hence be one with him. She wants to go where he goes and do what he does(vibrate). For him, she'll risk it ALL.
